Farewell to the Land of the Morning Calm

Standard

So it seems my time in this wonderful, friendly, delicious country has very quickly come to an end. I now only have just over a week left to bid my farewells, eat my last kimbab and ride my last city bus. In the next month I’ll have to learn to eat a new kind of spicy food (though Korea put up a good fight I hear it has nothing against India. Great) and be stared at on a whole new level of intense.

I’m really going to miss this place. Coming to Korea has been the best decision I’ve made and has helped me grow in so many ways. I feel like a totally different person from when I first got here, fresh out of university. I feel a little more mature, and though I’m still not sure what I’m going to do one day, I definitely have new passions and adventures  to go on that I didn’t even know existed till now. I’m quite proud of myself and the things I’ve accomplished this year. I’d be lying if I said I thought this year was going to be easy and that it was exactly what I wanted to do. But now that it’s over, I couldn’t be more happy that I came here. I’ve met so many wonderful people, who I hope I’ll be in contact with for a long time to come. I think everyone who’s been to Korea leaves with at least one new best friend. I’m sure going to miss some of these guys and gals here.

The excitement I’m feeling right now, on the other hand, is uncontrollable! I cannot wait for that moment I put my foot down on Indian soil! When that dry, dusty heat hits me right in the face. I get to experience yet another culture of which I have little to no knowledge about in the most raw and perfect way: by spending time there, roughing it, riding around on a motorbike the way they do and by submerging myself in everything that is India! It’s going to be amazing!

But I have a few challenges that await me when I arrive on beautiful African soil again. I have to get through the process of getting four visas in a very limited time. And while each visa can take more than a week to process, and I only have four before I fly out to New Delhi, things might get a little stressful at times.

So, just another little update on what I’ve been doing. Which has been packing mostly. I don’t really know how I’m going to fit a whole year’s worth of…stuff in one bag. Wish me luck!! Anyoungikeseyo!

Here we go… almost

Standard

So I’ve been thinking of starting a blog. Mostly for the purpose of letting everyone back home know whats happening, and especially so my parents know I’m still alive. For those of you who don’t know, my boyfriend, William, and I will soon be embarking on a trip of a lifetime. He actually left this Saturday for India which is the first leg of our trip. But because I’m still finishing up my contract here in South Korea, I only get to join him in two months time.

We plan on traveling through 15 countries, on two motorbikes, over the time span of about 4 months, though William would be traveling for about 6. Lucky Buggar. We start in beautiful India. I will be there for about a month before I head over to Greece to wait for William to fetch me with bike number 2 from England. We will then continue on, with his friend, Niko, joining us, to Turkey, Georgia, across the Black Sea to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia (where we drop Slovenian Niko off), Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and finally Norway.

So right now I’m planning like a crazy person. You have no idea what issues I’ve had concerning visas. South Africans really have it hard when it comes to multiple country travel, because each visa takes a certain amount of time and each visa can only be applied for a certain amount of time before entry. It all becomes one very careful dance with time.

I’ve never really been one for keeping a diary. I’d always start one but forget about it a few weeks in. I’m hoping to really put some effort into this, though it’s not really a diary. Maybe thats the key. I’m also not the world’s most gifted writer so these posts will mainly be to let you guys know what we’ve been up to, thats about it. Maybe I can get Will to write some more exciting and captivating posts sometimes. He’s the one with the writer’s talent.

So thats it for now. I’ll try post a few more times to get this thing going but the real stuff will come in about two months time ok!!! Till then, Anyoungikeseyo!
