Snakes on a plane.

I have fallen in love with Goa. It is the most relaxing, tranquil place imaginable. The water is the perfect temperature, just warm enough for you to want to run in but still cool enough to beat the heat. And what a heat it is! I have experienced heat like this before but never this constant. It used to get this hot in t at the beginning of the year but this is just never-ending heat. It goes on into the night. The fan we had in our room didn’t do much. Just move the heat around. But according to locals it was cool compared to the hot season. We quickly realised we were there at the perfect time of the year. Just after the “on-season”. Not too hot (apparently), and nice and quite. The prices are all much lower too. We were reminded of this every time we tried to buy something. The vendors would not let us forget what a bargain we were apparently getting.

So we were in Anjuna for a total of 6 days. We hired a scooter almost everyday and went zooming about from beach to beach and just taking some random left and right turns. We met some real nice Canadian girls and a Irishman. We all went on a scooter adventure one day, trying to find some remote roads and beaches. That day we also explored an old fort build in the 1700 to protect a river mouth. From there we could see the curvy coastline with white sands breaking the green line of palm trees every here and there.

I did a lot of shopping in Anjuna. Everything is so cheap and there are the most interesting things on display. The nicest clothes. Will and I each bought ourselves some very baggy boho pants. Speaking of decorating ourselves. William also added to his tattoo collection while we were there. He gets a tattoo in every country of significance he visits. So, having made such a big impression on him, India marked him with a snake. King cobra to be exact. This meant that it was not only me who couldn’t swim properly anymore. Our last beach days were therefore spent mostly lazing in the shade.

Our next and final stop was to be Bangalore. Will and I are both to fly out of here. Him heading to the UK to fetch the bike. And me heading for Thessaloniki in Greece to wait for him. We wanted to take a train again but all the tickets were sold out. So we were left with only one option. An overnight bus. We were a bit worried about this. The Canadian girls had told us some horror stories, involving cockroaches among other things, about their experience. But it turned out to be just fine. We were in A/C sleeper class. This meant a double-decker bus with tiny cubicles with beds for William and I. This was a very new concept for us. They don’t have anything like this in The States or SA. We were in the top cubicle with about half a meter space between us and the ceiling of the bus. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds. Being a night trip we just tried to sleep through it. That night we drove through thunder storms and over crazy roads. It felt like we were permanently in a mountain pass what with all the turns the bus was doing.

We arrived safely in Bangalore at about 9 the next morning. I could immediately tell that Bangalore is a much more modern city than say Mumbai and Delhi. The roads are a bit better and the buildings taller and shinier. There is a giant, brand new mall about 200m away from our hotel. It has everything you could ask for, including a Taco Bell, KFC, Spar (yes Spar) and many more. We treated ourselves to Taco Bell AND KFC yesterday! So naughty. But we figured that as soon as we get to Europe we won’t afford such luxuries.

Will only had one day to enjoy the city. He left at 12 last night for his 4am flight to England this morning. So now it’s just me and this crazy city for about 4 days. I’m kinda grateful for this mall now! But I’ll try do some other exploring  too. Then I have another 4 or 5 days in Greece.

Well I have to go find some food now and then maybe a new camera? I’ll prob post again before I leave 🙂
